China not too reliant on exports

China's is much less dependent on exports than commonly thought, research from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority notes.

The authors find that in China's coastal areas, it was not a rise in exports that led to output growth, but output growth that led to a surge in exports. In the inland area, the research found no relationship between exports and expansion.

The results of the research further suggested that a rise in exports had no impact on consumption in either the coastal or inland areas.
