Bank of Sierra Leone - Annual Report 2008

Sierra Leone's economy remained virtually unaffected by the international economic crisis in 2008 and continued to show robust growth, notes the country's central bank in the latest Annual Report.

The report notes that real GDP grew by 5.5% in 2008 largely due to sound monetary, fiscal and credit conditions, which facilitated increased lending to the private sector, particularly the construction and agriculture subsectors.

The report also notes that the relative stability in the foreign exchange
