BoE and Treasury launch CBDC task force
Central bank also forms new division to lead “internal exploration” of digital currency
The Bank of England and the UK Treasury are launching a joint task force to tackle design challenges around central bank digital currency (CBDC).
The task force was created to encourage a “strategic approach” to exploring issues around CBDC and to promote “close co-operation” between the central bank and the finance ministry.
Besides the creation of the task force, the BoE has created a new internal division called the “CBDC unit”, headed by deputy governor Jon Cunliffe, the central bank said
