Fintechs launch e-rupee services

Initiative follows RBI’s announcement last year that CBDC would be extended to non-banks

Two fintechs have launched services offering wallets for India’s central bank digital currency, in partnership with the country’s central bank and a commercial lender. 

MobiKwik announced on January 28 that it was the first fintech to go live with a full-scale production version of an e-rupee wallet.

Bipin Preet Singh, the company’s co-founder and managing director, said he expected the e-rupee would “further expand the digital economy”.
