DNB paper calls for ‘fundamental overhaul' of Dutch pensions system

Central bank says current system has ‘opaque redistributive elements that are difficult to justify'

An ageing population and a changing labour market call for a "fundamental overhaul" of the Dutch pension system, The Netherlands Bank (DNB) writes in it's latest bulletin.

In the bulletin, the DNB argues many pension scheme members are unaware of the value of their pension rights and the current system, moreover, has "opaque redistributive elements that tend to be difficult to justify".

"[It] must be completely clear to members what claim they have towards their pension fund and what adjustments
