St Louis Fed president launches new household financial stability research centre

James Bullard, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, had unveiled a new research centre at the central bank that aims to gain greater insight into the importance of household balance sheets.

Writing in the St Louis Fed's Annual Report 2012, published yesterday, Bullard said that while the Fed had long been engaged in research into households' finances, the new centre would offer a "conceptual framework and a common table to work together" on the issue.

Bullard pointed to
