RBNZ’s amendment bill set to create a permanent observer position for the Treasury
The secretary to the Treasury, Gabriel Makhlouf, will attend monetary policy meetings of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as an observer, starting in late October, the central bank said today (October 16).
The RBNZ’s governor, Adrian Orr, extended an invitation to Makhlouf in July with the aim of deepening his understanding of the process by which monetary policy decisions are made. This greater involvement of the Treasury has also been decided to ensure “a smooth transition to a new monetary
