Iran appoints new governor amid protests and plummeting rial
Farzin becomes fourth head of central bank in less than two years
The Iranian government appointed Mohamed Reza Farzin the new governor of the Central Bank of Iran on December 29. Farzin replaces Ali Salehabadi, who resigned recently.
According to media reports, Farzin was CEO of state-owned Bank Melli Iran at the time of his appointment as governor. He was previously chairman of the board of Karafarin Bank. Farzin is an associate professor in the management and accounting faculty at Allameh Tabataba’i University. He earned a PhD in economics at that
