Colombia names new central bank governor
Senior economist focused on development set to take office in January
The Central Bank of Colombia’s board of directors appointed Leonardo Villar as the institution’s new governor on December 10.
Villar will take over from current governor Juan José Echavarría on January 4. He will serve an initial term of four years, with the possibility of being reappointed twice.
Villar is currently an alternative executive director at the International Monetary Fund, representing a group of Spanish-speaking nations. He has a varied background in finance and economics
