Next finance minister will have pick of candidates – which could bring Brexit into the equation

The change of political leadership in the UK will see a new finance minister make the choice of the next Bank of England governor, potentially meaning Brexit-friendly candidates will enter the frame.

A spokesman for the Treasury confirmed today (June 24) that the appointment would happen after a new prime minister is installed. That means it is likely the current finance minister, Philip Hammond, who has the pick of the BoE governor candidates, will be replaced.
