Paraguay central bank bids farewell to Valdovinos as Sienra takes helm

Administration change prompts Valdovinos’s exit from the central bank

José Cantero Sienra took over as president of the Central Bank of Paraguay earlier this month, following the departure of Carlos Fernández Valdovinos.

His appointment to the position followed Paraguay’s general election, which took place in April this year. President Horacio Cartes and vice-president Juan Afara of the leading Colorado Party were not eligible for re-election.

In Paraguay, the term of the central bank corresponds with that of the term of the president. Valdovinos had served
