In the past decade, the Central Bank of Venezuela has had no less than eight central bank governors, the latest being appointed on June 19.

Calixto Ortega Sánchez, former vice-president of Citgo petroleum corporation, has been approved by the country’s national assembly to replace Ramón Lobo, who has been president of the central bank since October 2017.

Before joining Citgo, Sánchez served as senior adviser to the country’s government-owned oil company, Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA).
