Male economist chosen over four women who were shortlisted
The UK’s Treasury has appointed Jonathan Haskel, an academic economist, to serve on the Bank of England’s monetary policy committee.
Haskel was appointed today (May 31) to serve a three-year term as an external MPC member, replacing Ian McCafferty, who will depart the committee after six years in the role.
Haskel is a professor of economics at Imperial College Business School, and will continue to teach there part-time. External MPC members are expected to work an average of three days a week
