Fed appoints former supervision and regulation head to general counsel

United States: The Federal Reserve has found a replacement for general counsel Scott Alvarez, who will be retiring from the central bank after 36 years of service.

Mark Van Der Weide will take up the position later this quarter, with the Fed having considered “many highly qualified internal and external candidates” for the role. “Van Der Weide was chosen for his exceptional skills and experience,” the US central bank explained in a statement.
