ECB unveils guidelines for hiring ‘ethical hackers’

“Tiber-EU” framework designed to help financial institutions toughen cyber defences

The European Central Bank has published a guide to the hiring of so-called ethical hackers, who can test the cyber defences of financial firms in a realistic way.

The ECB’s Threat Intelligence-based Ethical Red Teaming (Tiber-EU) framework provides a basis for firms to employ threat intelligence (TI) and for red team (RT) providers to test their approach to cyber breaches.

TI offers “reconnaissance” on the most likely threats to a business, which RTs can then exploit in simulated attacks.
