Turkey’s Yilmaz dismisses benefits of capital deepening

Turkey should build its production capacity rather than increase capital intensity to meet its long-term growth potential, Durmuş Yılmaz, the governor of the Central Bank of Turkey, said on 21 July.

"Turkey's efforts for development are mostly based on increasing the current sources of production, rather than using them more effectively and efficiently," Yilmaz said.

Yilmaz cited a study carried out by the Central Bank of Turkey that suggests capital deepening accounted for 75% of Turkey's
