Canada's Longworth on promoting stability

In the speech 'Promoting stability, confidence and well-being' given on 6 February David Longworth of the Bank of Canada said Canada's financial system was well placed to withstand shocks like an abrupt slowdown in the United States.

In the speech he said the domestic economy was doing well, with inflation close to the central bank's 1-3 percent target range.

But Longworth also repeated a central bank commitment made last November to study the costs and benefits of either lowering the inflation
