Slow growth but no recession, says Fed's Yellen

The US economy will not fall into recession this year, said Janet Yellen, the president of the San Francisco Federal Reserve.

"While growth seems likely to be sluggish this year, the Fed's policy actions should help to promote a pickup in growth over time," Yellen said. "I consider it most probable that the US economy will experience slow growth and not outright recession."

Her views sharply contrast with those of many commentators, some of which think the US is already in recession.
