Knight on Asia, the dollar & global imbalances

In the speech 'Asia, the US dollar and global imbalances' given on 18 May Malcolm Knight of the BIS said global imbalances in current account deficits and budget deficits are "not sustainable".

Speaking to European policy makers in Brussels, Knight said the growing current account deficits between Asia and the U.S. and between the U.S. and Europe, as well as the large U.S. budget deficit would eventually have to be corrected by swings in global currency exchange rates.
