Economics needs a ‘replication journal’, paper argues

Economists should seek to reproduce the results obtained by earlier studies

There should be an economics journal devoted specifically to replicating results achieved in earlier research, a working paper published this month by the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis argues.

In On the need for a replication journal, Christian Zimmermann notes there is "very little replication of research in economics, particularly compared with other sciences". This is largely due to poor or even negative incentives for such work, he argues.

The solution, says Zimmermann, is a journal
