Middle East and North Africa’s trade below potential

Exports from the Middle East and North Africa are more than 86% below what would be expected given the characteristics of their economies, new research from the International Monetary Fund states.

The research finds that the lack of efficiency of customs-clearance processes appears to have a significant impact on trade. The analysis also shows that reducing the transport constraint from the average of the Middle East and North Africa region to the world average could increase exports by about 10
