Extreme weather conditions key challenge in Caribbean

External shocks are responsible for more than a half of macroeconomic fluctuations in the Caribbean region, new research from the International Monetary Fund reveals.

The analysis shows that domestic business cycles are particularly vulnerable to changes in climatic conditions, with natural disaster leading to an immediate and significant fall in output. Oil price and external demand shocks also add significantly to domestic macroeconomic fluctuations
