Rural banking trends disrupted by changes

The relationship between traditional measures of market concentration and performance in the United States banking sector is changing in small, isolated, rural markets, research by the Kansas City Fed finds.

Data indicates that after 1985, the relationship between earnings and market concentration broke down significantly. By the 2001 to 2005 period, very few statistically significant relationships existed between concentration and any performance variables.
