On to the euro: Romania's Annual Report

The National Bank of Romania's Annual Report for 2007 marked the end of one era as the country joined the European Union and the start of a new one as the country prepares to join the euro.

"Thus, a seven-year cycle (2000-06) aimed at making Romania a EU member state ended, and a new one, possibly lasting seven years too (2007-13) and due for completion once the country has adopted the euro, started," said the report.
