Central Bank of Chile - Annual Report 2006

The Chilean economy benefited from a higher-than-expected rise in the price of copper in 2006.

Chile is the world's largest exporter of the metal, the price of which shot up to more than $4 per pound in the first half of 2006. Despite dropping to less than $3 per pound in the second half of the year, the price still remained well above projections from early 2006.
