According to the Bank of Mexico's Annual Report 2004, Mexico benefited from the continued recovery of the world economy, which recorded its highest rate of growth since the mid-seventies.

Throughout 2004, the Mexican economy was influenced by the ample availability of external financial resources and the strength of both oil and non-oil exports. These factors fostered the expansion of private consumption and investment. During the year consumption made the highest contribution to real GDP growth
