IMF to tackle effects of globalisation in 2017

Fund says it will focus on bringing the benefits of globalisation and technology to a wider section of society

The International Monetary Fund is turning its attention to spreading the benefits of globalisation and technology more equally in 2017, as populist anger in many advanced economies threatens to pick apart the earlier consensus on global openness.

The IMF's workplan for 2017, published today (December 8), includes a raft of projects designed to "make globalisation work for all", as well as fixing gaps in the global financial "safety net" and giving emerging markets a greater say.
