People: New deputies for New Zealand and Ukraine central banks

New Zealand: The Reserve Bank of New Zealand today appointed Geoff Bascand as deputy governor and head of operations, effective from May 27, 2013. Bascand replaces Don Abel, assistant governor and head of operations, who retires this week after providing outstanding service over an eight-year period.

Bascand is currently the government statistician and chief executive at Statistics New Zealand. He will join Grant Spencer, the central bank's deputy chief executive and head of financial stability
