Ireland appoints new deputy governor

The Central Bank of Ireland on Wednesday announced the appointment of Stefan Gerlach as deputy governor.

Gerlach, currently professor of monetary economics and managing director of the Institute for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability at the University of Frankfurt, will take up his new position on September 1, 2011.

He is one of two deputy governors at the central bank and will take on responsibility for central banking functions. Matthew Elderfield is the deputy governor in charge of
