Markets rise on back of joint action

Global equity markets have surged following five of the world's most powerful central banks' announcement of their latest coordinated initiative on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones index of leading US stocks gained more than 350 points on Tuesday to finish up 3.5% at 12,156. The index had advanced a further 52 points (0.43%) by 1pm local time on Wednesday.

The FTSE 100 index of the biggest companies in the UK closed up 1.51% at 5,776 on Wednesday, after rising by 1.1% on Tuesday.
