Cyprus makes request to join eurozone, says EU

The European Commission has received an application from Cyprus to join the eurozone, spokeswoman Amelia Torres said Tuesday 13 February.

"Cyprus has sent in a request for us to look at whether they are ready to join the eurozone," Torres said.

She said the commission and the European Central Bank will in May complete their assessments of euro entry for Cyprus and Slovenia.
