Sri Lanka could grow at 8% in 2007

Sri Lanka's economy could grow at 8% in 2007 if the violence and security concerns in the country are reduced, the central bank governor said in an interview.

"If we really work hard at it, we can make 8%," said Ajith Cabraal, who took over the top job at the central bank in July after a long career in public service. "It [growth] can be sustainable and if the security concerns are reduced, it can be even more." The country has seen a return to violence between government and separatist forces.
