Cuba gets first new governor in 14 years

Ernesto Medina, the head of one of Cuba's major banks, has replaced Francisco Soberon as governor of the central bank.

Medina, formerly the head of Banco Financiero Internacional, was revealed as the new governor on Friday by a government statement.

Soberon had been governor since 1995. Reuters, a news agency, reported that Soberon was replaced at his own request. However, his departure follows signs that Cuba is being hit hard by the financial crisis owing to a decline in tourism.
