Report says BoJ to consider rate rise this month

The Bank of Japan will likely consider raising interest rates as early as this month, the Yomiuri newspaper reported on Monday 1 January.

The Japanese central bank was expected to make a final decision at its policy-setting meeting on January 17-18, the daily said, without citing sources.

But the BOJ's decision on a rate rise could be delayed until February or later, depending on "adjustments" between the central bank and the government and ruling parties, the report said.
