EU's Almunia positive on 2007 inflation

European Union Monetary Affairs commissioner Joaquin Almunia said Thursday 18 January euro zone growth and inflation should be roughly in line with 2006 figures this year thanks largely due to a positive outlook for Germany.

"We'll end 2007 growing almost as much as in 2006," Mr Almunia told a business conference in Madrid, adding that 2006 GDP eurozone growth should be around 2.6 per cent.
