Sandbox popularity rises at central banks

Trend looks set to continue

Sandbox popularity is on the rise, Central Banking’s Fintech Benchmarks 2022 data reveals.

Of 33 central banks participating in the Fintech Benchmarks 2022, 28 responded about the operation of fintech initiatives at their central bank.

Sandboxes were the most popular initiative, used by 57% of central banks. Among the 17 central banks that participated in both years and answered this section, sandbox operations rose from 47% to 65%.

The overall proportion of central banks running accelerators
