Currency staff make up 8% of central bank workforce

Institutions with own printworks have larger currency departments

Currency division employees account for around 8% of central banks’ workforce, data from the Currency Benchmarks 2024 shows.

Average employee numbers are 73.2 on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis across 30 currency operations that provided data. As a proportion of average overall staff strength at these central banks (910.5) cash teams account for 8%, on average.
