G+D dominates central bank note sorting

Giesecke+Devriant’s BPS M7 machine is very widely used among central banks

Munich-headquartered Giesecke+Devriant (G+D) enjoys by far the largest slice of the market for banknote sorting machines among central banks, the Currency Benchmarks 2024 find.

Respondents mentioned a range of different machines in use. Many operate several different kinds of sorting machine, often from different manufacturers.

However, cash technology firm G+D’s machines were mentioned by nearly three-quarters (71.4%) of respondents. Almost all of these central banks operate the BPS M7 model –
