Most central banks forecast currency demand over 1–3 years

Minority of institutions use big data for forecasting purposes

Nearly all central banks forecast future demand for currency, with the majority of institutions focusing on medium-term data, the Currency Benchmarks 2023 find.

Of the 32 central banks that addressed this section, over half (56.3%) said their forecasts cover a 1–3 year period. The figure was boosted in particular by responses from high income central banks, 68.8% of which forecast this time horizon.

Some 11 (34.4%) respondents said their projections span 3–5 years. Currency usage forecasts
