A third of central banks lack key risk indicators

Most of those with KRIs conduct monitoring and employ feedback loops

Slightly over one third of central banks providing data on the Risk Management Benchmarks 2025 do not use key risk indicators (KRIs).

The analysis reveals that 34.9% of 43 jurisdictions (15 central banks) are yet to develop KRIs, compared with 28 banks where the approach is already operational. The proportion of institutions without KRIs was slightly higher in the previous year’s sample.

Meanwhile, many respondents using KRIs evaluate the mechanism periodically. Nearly nine-tenths (88.9%) of 27
