Sweden makes further cuts, but Norway continues to hold

Riksbank reduces rates by 25bp, but Norges Bank maintains more hawkish approach

Sweden’s central bank today (December 19) announced that it would be cutting its policy rate by 25 basis points to 2.5%, while its Norwegian counterpart has opted to hold rates at 4.5%.

In a statement, Sveriges Riksbank said it would be making the cut – its fifth after the policy rate hit a peak of 4% in September 2023 – to provide further support to the economy.
