Economists least likely to research impact of AI

Inflation dynamics retains position at top of the rankings

Central bank economists see the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) as the least important subject matter for research, among options provided by the Economics Benchmarks 2024.

The results of a grading exercise from one (low importance) to five (top importance) shows respondents gave AI a score of three. The metric also had the lowest average rating in the 2023 benchmark despite some variations in respondents. Most of the rated topics in the past year retained the same spot this year.
