Share of economics departments with data unit rises

Web scraping and administrative data are top alternative sources for economists

The number of central banks with a devoted unit supporting economists’ data access increased year on year (YoY), according to the Economics Benchmarks 2024.

Nearly three-fifths (57.6%) of institutions indicated that they have a central data service for economists. The figure is a significant improvement over the findings in the 2023 and 2022 benchmarks.
