Asset delegation to external managers averages just 12%

One in 10 central banks considering reviews of allocations to external managers

Central banks outsource an average of just 12% of their foreign exchange (FX) reserves to external fund and asset managers, data from the Reserve Benchmarks 2024 reveals.

The range among respondents goes from zero to 94.8% across 54 jurisdictions.

Three-quarters (75%) of central banks indicate that they use external managers. The figure is largely consistent with the 72.4% reported in the 2023 benchmarks and with the results from previous years.
