Handful of central banks expanded swap lines in past year

Vast majority of swap lines offer US dollar liquidity

The international network of swap lines between central banks expanded modestly in the past year, data from the Reserve Benchmarks 2024 shows.

Among 54 central banks that provided data, four institutions (7.4%) established new swap lines in the past year. A further three expanded their existing lines.

Almost all of respondents’ new and existing swap lines are denominated in US dollars, the data shows. Fourteen central banks have a US dollar swap line, while one jurisdiction in Asia-Pacific says
