Covid-19 impact on cash demand minimal in past year
Majority of currency departments relax pandemic countermeasures
Over half of central banks said Covid-19 created no change in cash demand over the past one year, the Currency Benchmarks 2023 find.
The question received 27 responses. Of these, 15 (55.6%) central banks said the pandemic created no change in currency demand. Ten (37%) respondents said demand rose as a result of the virus. At two (7.4%) institutions, however, demand decreased.
Responding to an additional question, 22 (71%) of 31 respondents said they undertook no countermeasures to prevent
