ECB approaching end of tightening cycle, analysts say
Divisions on governing council are creating communications challenge
The European Central Bank is nearing the end of its tightening cycle as the eurozone’s inflation falls and its economy weakens, analysts say.
Many observers expect the ECB will increase interest rates by 25 basis points at its next policy meeting on July 27. ECB president Christine Lagarde said this was likely in her last policy press conference in June, and she repeated it several times afterwards.
That move would take the key deposit rate to 3.75%, up from -0.5% when the governing council
