Ueda to succeed Kuroda at BoJ

Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida nominated Kazuo Ueda to a five-year term as the next governor of the Bank of Japan. The move came as a surprise, as earlier reports had named deputy governor Masayoshi Amamiya as the likely candidate. Amamiya reportedly refused the nomination. Governor Haruhiko Kuroda leaves office on April 8.

The prime minister also named Ryozo Himino and Shinichi Uchida to serve as deputy governors, to replace Amamiya and Masazumi Wakatabe.
