Payment innovation is top priority for fintech research

CBDCs and suptech are also leading focus areas for development

Most institutions consider payment innovations as a top priority area for fintech research and collaboration, the Fintech Benchmarks 2023 show.

Of the 37 central banks that provided data on their priorities for research and collaboration, over 90% selected payment innovations as a matter of greatest importance. Second was research into central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) (87%) and third was suptech (73%).

Cyber security was fourth (60%) and regtech fifth (49%). Fewer central banks
