Average central bank equity allocations at 11.9%

Despite higher volatility, high income central banks increase their investments in equities

Average central bank investments into equities averaged 11.9% among participating central banks in the Reserve Benchmarks 2022.

Nonetheless, the number of institutions investing in this asset is rather low. Just seven central banks reported stock investments. The share of their portfolios invested into equities ranged from 2% in a high income central bank in the Asia-Pacific region to 25% in a high income central bank in Europe.

Government bonds remain by far the main element of reserves
